10. Superman And The Mole Men
The first outing of George Reeves’ Superman was a mixed bag.
The story focused on the discovery of a group of “Mole Men” living underground
who are disturbed by the surface dwellers. This causes Superman to intervene in
his (technically) first feature film debut.
George Reeves makes a good Superman; he has the look down completely. He looks like the 1930s Superman had just jumped off the page. His character work is very good as well as he nails both the Clark and Superman persona’s.
What holds this film back is its slightly goofy and outlandish plot. This was very typical of comic book series at the time, and the tradition would continue through to Adam West’s Batman. However, like a few entries on this list, Superman and The Mole Men lacks the depth necessary for a truly great comic book adaptation.
