Every M. Night Shyamalan Movie Ranked From Worst To Best

3. Split (2016)

M Night Shyamalan
Universal Pictures

Talk about one Hell of a return to form. After The Visit brought him back from the brink of awfulness, Split is Shyamalan's return to highly compelling filmmaking, with an absurd and absurdly entertaining mystery thriller.

James McAvoy steals the show with his multi-faceted, multi-persona performance, but Anya Taylor-Joy and Betty Buckley are also fantastic, and Shyamalan manages to combine white-knuckle suspense with lashings of grim gallows humour. There's also a delicious sting in the tail that's going to have people talking for a long, long time.

Ultimately, Split is proof enough that the filmmaker is much better off making low-budget, claustrophobic thrillers like this, as he seems much more comfortable and capable.
