Every M. Night Shyamalan Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
10. The Happening (2008)
When it comes to unintentional hilarity, no film in Shyamalan's filmography is more "accomplished" than this Mark Wahlberg-starring B-movie about planet Earth getting fed up of humanity's pollution and releasing a neurotoxin which causes exposed victims to commit suicide (spoilers, sorry!).
Some continue to argue that The Happening is a campy blockbuster satire that intends every drip of its humour, but that was incredibly difficult to believe when the movie was released in 2008, and scarcely moreso today.
Mark Wahlberg talks to a plant and not-so-believably promises an old lady he won't kill her in her sleep, and him being romantically paired with Zooey Deschanel is just incredibly off-base as the two have no natural chemistry whatsoever.
It gets a few points for being Shyamalan's single R-rated movie to date, but it's ultimately a failure.
