Every M. Night Shyamalan Plot Twist Ranked From Worst To Best
2. Unbreakable - Elijah Glass Caused The Train Crash While Trying To Find His Superhero Equal
Plot: The sole survivor of a train crash discovers he is an unbreakable superhero.
This visually stunning, beautifully-acted and intensely thought-provoking superhero origin story is not only one of cinema's best superhero films, but it's also arguably the greatest film M. Night Shyamalan has ever made.
It ends with another great twist that comes out of nowhere and will leave everyone shocked, while the scene in which it's revealed showcases great writing and some of the best acting of Samuel L. Jackson and Bruce Willis' respective careers.
It might be as iconic or downright shocking as the number one spot on this list, but it's still an excellent ending that gives the film a whole new meaning.
Unbreakable was already an extremely interesting superhero origin story, but at the end we understand that all along the film was also the origin story of Mr Glass, a super-villain. All along, Mr Glass caused many disasters all over the world in order to find his superhero equal and thus find his place in the world.
As super-villain stories go, few are more thought-provoking than this one, especially since the film makes you feel a lot of sympathy for Elijah despite the terrible things he's done.
