Every Main Fast & Furious Villain Ranked From Worst To Best

Arturo Braga is a mostly underwritten drug lord in the plot of Fast & Furious. While his involvement is crucial to the major narrative development - his decision to assassinate Letty is what sets Dom on his path of revenge and brings Brian O'Conner back into the Fast family - his characterisation is completely sidelined in favour of those central arcs.

Braga is a hollow recreation of the villainous work in 2 Fast 2 Furious, isn't given many major scenes to work with emotionally, and doesn't get to establish himself as a true threat on screen. While his function is fulfilled, successfully creating a reason for Dom and Brian to reconnect and embrace their prior friendship, there's still a feeling of dissatisfaction when contemplating how effective he could have been.

The saving grace of Braga is that he is played by John Ortiz, one of the most underrated character actors working today. Ortiz's gravitas and chilling charisma makes up for some of the script's deficiencies, able to convey himself as a crime lord without any assistance from the writers. He's far more effective in his brief appearance in Fast & Furious 6 than he is in his own film.
