Every Main Fast & Furious Villain Ranked From Worst To Best

Hernan Reyes is another villain who exists primarily to drive the action and force the characterisation of the family forward. He is mostly relegated to being on the sidelines throughout Fast Five as the family gets the entire crew together, deals with various romantic subplots and deals with the more immediate obstacle of Luke Hobbs (who is not a villain but is one of the best opponents in the series).

However, Reyes is positioned as a major threat and always conveys an aura of authority whenever he appears in the film, making the third act's deconstruction of him feel even more satisfying to witness. His early appearance is genuinely unnerving, and while subsequent appearances aren't quite as impressive, he's one of the few villains in the series that has absolutely no positive traits and is genuinely loathsome. The great performance by Joaquim de Almeida helps strengthen the hatred that he creates with every line read.

Fast Five is one of the undisputed peaks of the series and while Reyes is far from the major reason why, he fulfils a similarly necessary role to Andy Garcia in Ocean's Eleven, the corrupt businessman that the audience takes joy in watching crumble.
