Every Major Cinematic Universe Ranked From Worst To Best

11. View Askiewniverse

Star Wars Shared Universe
Miramax

Named after the writer/director/actor/editor's production company, even Kevin Smith's most ardent fans are generally in agreement that the movies comprising the View Askiewniverse mark the filmmaker's creative high-point, yet are often largely ignored when it comes to discussions of shared cinematic universes, despite the Askiewniverse dating all the way back to 1994.

Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Clerks II all take place in the same continuity as confusing as it frequently can be, with Jason Mewes' Jay and Smith's own Silent Bob serving as the connective tissue between the movies. Hell, the Scream franchise technically exists in the Askiewniverse following Jay and Silent Bob's cameo in the third installment.

They may not be regarded as classics, but Smith's 90s output certainly captured the stoner/slacker vibe of a specific time period for a specific subsection of American culture. Hardly blockbuster material (the six movies combined only earned $109.5m at the box office), but the Askiewniverse showed that not all shared cinematic universes had to be comprised solely of effects-heavy blockbusters.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
