18. Rocket - Arranging Yondu's Funeral

Though he likes to put on a brave face and a mean bravado, Rocket Raccoon is actually a scared, lonely creature that doesn’t want to fight unless he has to. He was the only Avenger or Guardian who didn’t try to take on Thanos one on one, and while that may have been the smart move, it shows that unless he has a bigger weapon than the other guy, he’s not a fighter.

Instead, Rocket is a surprisingly emotional being. After Groot sacrificed himself to save the Guardians, Rocket replanted him and brought up Baby Groot as his own, and he finally showed his vulnerability when he was blind drunk on Knowhere.

However, no one truly understood Rocket until he got to know Yondu. The two were very similar in their attitudes and the defences that they put up, and that connection brought out the best in the Guardians of the Galaxy’s resident trash panda.

So much so that when Yondu died, Rocket reached out to Stakar and the Ravagers to make sure they knew what he did and gave him the funeral he deserved. He liked to push people away, but this proved once and for all that Rocket had a heart.
