17. Groot - "We Are Groot"
When the Guardians of the Galaxy first came together, they were for the most part five strangers that quickly grew to be a family. While Groot already knew Rocket, though the true depths of their relationship pre-Xandar have gone unexplored in the MCU, he had no relationship with Peter, Gamora, and Drax.
Yet, after escaping prison together, trying to sell the Orb together, and trying to save Xandar together, Groot had built enough of a connection with his team to sacrifice himself for their safety. As their ship plummeted to the ground after the battle in the sky with Ronan, Groot encased his four comrades, sparing them any damage from the crash.
Of course, this meant that Groot was the only one of the Guardians to perish, but this was okay. He had always been on his own as a Groot, but with the Guardians of the Galaxy, he finally found something he could be a part of. A family that was worth sacrificing himself for.
In that moment, they were all Groot.
