With Phase Four, the MCU has introduced brand new Disney+ content, shifting the focus onto both new characters, and previously established supporting characters. Sam Wilson is one character who has benefitted more than most in this regard, thanks to The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

As a supporting character to Steve Rogers, the spotlight was rarely ever on Sam, however here he had six episodes to shine. Not only was his family and background explored, so was his role in a world without Captain America. That role was to become the new Captain America.

He faced adversity from the start, from Isaiah Bradley, from the US government, and from himself, however after learning more about the history of the vibranium shield, Sam finally took on the mantle.

It was a long road, but no one in the MCU is more deserving of carrying the Captain America moniker into the future. This he proved within mere minutes of officially assuming the title, as he achieved more for Karli Mogenthau’s cause with one conversation than she did through any of her super powered acts.
