23. Ronan – Guardians of the Galaxy

Guardians of the Galaxy is brilliant very much despite how uninspiring its villain is because of how great the heroes are and how different it all was from the MCU movies we’d already seen. Again, it’s an origin, so the villain is a bit of a secondary concern, but Lee Pace’s Ronan is pretty limited.

He’s another of the “I want to take over the universe” types who never leave as much of a lasting impact. And while it’s easy to hate him - he’s a bit of a space Hitler with his superiority complex and his need to wipe out Xandar - but a really good villain has to make you like them too.

He eventually came back for Captain Marvel (and might again) and if anything he actually got more limited. He serves a purpose but that’s it.
