Every MCU Director Ranked Worst To Best
4. Taika Waititi
Directed:
Thor: Ragnarok (2017).
This New Zealand director of quirky, random comedies was an excellent choice to bring in for Thor: Ragnarok, since this is an auteur with a clear creative vision who could bring something different to the table. Thor: Ragnarok is far from the best of the MCU films but Waititi himself didn't disappoint and did one of the best directing jobs in the MCU to date, allowing Ragnarok to be one of the artiest Marvel films.
Although Ragnarok's color palette is somewhat messy, it's still visually stunning and boasts some incredible shots, such as Hela's take-down of the flying horses and the tracking close-up of Thor's hammer attack during the unforgettable opening fight soundtracked to Led Zeppelin's Immigrant Song.
Ragnarok was overall a delightfully stylish entry full of colorful cinematography and a wonderfully quirky vibe. Unfolding in a brilliantly designed environment that mixed epic classical architecture and geeky, retro designs, Ragnarok proved once again that the MCU is not a conveyor belt franchise and is constantly exploring new styles and genres in a very clever manner.
