Iron Man, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole got off to an explosive start, as nine soldiers were killed within the opening scene. The Ten Rings kidnapped Tony Stark and were supposed to kill him, however they decided to keep him alive to build them a Jericho Missile. This decision ended up costing them multiple lives, as Tony killed just shy of 30 of his captors while making his escape.

Yinsen was a further casualty of the escape, though this was what he wanted, and in his dying words he gave Tony the advice that would change his life forever.

Even after returning to the United States, Tony's killing wasn't finished. After learning about the Ten Rings' occupation of Gulmira, he flew out and took no fewer than 18 more lives. It's unclear just how many the terrorist group killed before Iron Man arrived, but there's no doubt he saved more lives than he took.

The majority of the deaths that came at Obadiah Stane's hands were when he ordered the slaughter of roughly 20 terrorists, before suiting up and killing a further four innocent civilians. Pepper ultimately killed Obie, and even though he was the main villain of the movie, the Iron Monger saw his kill count just about doubled by Tony Stark.
