18. Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings (2021)

Shang Chi
Marvel Studios

One of the MCU's most pleasant surprises, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is a thrilling origin story that manages to balance its enticing mythology with its instantly engaging characters and spectacular action sequences.

The first half of the movie shines in particular, as Shang-Chi (played by a charming Simu Liu) finds himself conflicted by his past and the villainous actions of his own father. It makes for an epic action-adventure, made all the more entertaining by the exciting return of long-lost characters and the ambiguity of its credit sequence.

Its second half may fail to act on the emotional potential of its first hour, opting for an over-indulgence of CGI and rushed confrontations, but between its choreography, performances and infusion of Asian culture, the Ten Rings is a great superhero flick that promises big things.
