When Iron Man 3 revealed that Ben Kingsley wasn’t the Mandarin but rather a drug addicted actor named Trevor Slattery, the majority of audiences turned on the movie. However, once you appreciate him for what he is, there can be a much greater love for the Scouse thespian.
Before he would return in Shang-Chi eight years later, Marvel made a One-Shot detailing his life in prison through the medium of a documentary. As the most infamous prisoner in America, everyone wanted to know who Trevor Slattery was, and so he was interviewed.
However, in spite of yet another wonderful performance from Kingsley, this was never about his character. This was about confirming that there was a real head of the Ten Rings, and that he was lurking somewhere in the background of the MCU.
This didn’t payoff until Wenwu was introduced in Shang-Chi, and even laughed about the name Aldrich Killian chose for his terrorist villain, but in a similar way to 'The Consultant' went a long way to answering a question that had been bothering MCU fans since Iron Man 3's release.
