Every MCU Romance Ranked From Worst To Best

11. Thor & Jane Foster

Guardians Of The Galaxy Star Lord Gamora
Marvel Studios

Thor's relationship with Jane Foster is one that often gets a lot of flack and, though most of the complaints are valid, not all of the hate is deserved. Well, at least it wasn't in the first film.

Coming from two completely different walks of life, Jane's science-driven brain was sidetracked when she discovered that the mystery man she knocked over was actually the God of Thunder. The unlikely duo eventually fell for each other and, although Natalie Portman and Chris Hemsworth had undeniable chemistry when on-screen together, the relationship fell victim to a lot of tropes.

Though easy to overlook in the 2011 film because they didn't spend as much time together, these issues were unfortunately magnified in Thor: The Dark World when it was revealed that Jane had spent the past two years moping over Thor's absence and then, we kid you not, became the personification of a damsel in distress when the Aether literally embedded itself within her.

She was then given very little to do and, despite being at the center of the story, it was Thor and her friends who solved the problems for her. An active protagonist she was not.

It's a shame that all of this led to Marvel dropping the romance (and the character) altogether because, due to the strength of the actors involved, this relationship had potential - even if it was executed all wrong.
