Karli Morgenthau and her Flag Smashers weren't the only ones to benefit from Dr. Nagel's super soldier serum. Eight vials went to their group, and Zemo smashed another 11 after he shot Karli, but one found its way into John Walker's pocket.

As Erskine foretold so many years earlier, nothing truly changed within Walker. Instead, it was simply a case of bad becoming worse. Of course, he became far stronger than he had ever been before, and it made a huge difference as he was now able to hold his own against the Flag Smashers where he couldn't before.

Thanks to his already impressive physical prowess, the serum likely made him stronger than could have been expected, and while this will be an invaluable asset to US Agent moving forward, he chose to use his power to murder the wrong Flag Smasher.

There is still potential in John Walker to do good in the MCU, as he proved by abandoning his personal fight with Karli to try and save a load of innocent people from falling to their deaths, but it all depends on which direction his new boss chooses to send her newest soldier.
