Every MCU Villain Plot Ranked From Worst To Best
7. A Universe In His Image - Ego (Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2)
After Ronan disappointed as the villain in Guardians of the Galaxy, Volume 2 introduced Ego the living planet, a character Marvel Studios actually acquired back from Fox. With Kurt Russell cast to play the antagonist, though at the time wasn't confirmed to be an antagonist, Ego was far better than Ronan.
The man revealed to be Peter Quill's father became the first Celestial to be introduced properly into the MCU, not counting the floating head that is Knowhere, and he had one of the most sinister plots of them all. After travelling from world to world, making children to see if his gift would be passed on, and discarding them if not, he found that he had been successful with Peter.
Ego then looked to his son to help him absorb the entire universe into his singularity, but not before playing on his heart strings. Quill had never known his dad, and had very little time with his mother. A family was the only thing he had ever wanted.
Of course, it wasn't Ego's intention, but he helped make Peter realise that Yondu was the only father figure he ever needed. Murder, manipulation, and his plan to take over the universe aside, the most shocking revelation was that he planted the cancer that killed Peter's mom. This instantly broke hearts in cinemas everywhere, and solidified Ego as one of the cruelest villains of them all.
