Every MCU Villain Plot Ranked From Worst To Best
4. Repurposing And Selling Alien Tech Weapons - Adrian Toomes (Spider-Man: Homecoming)
Following on from Zemo and Ego, Spider-Man: Homecoming continued the run of incredible villains in phase three. Instead of going straight for the Green Goblin or any of the villains that have been done before, Marvel Studios put Spider-Man up against the Vulture. As with Mysterio, he was updated with a load of tech to better fit the landscape of the MCU.
Adrian Toomes once made an honest living, cleaning up the mess that was made after the Battle of New York. His company won a contract with the state, and so he invested heavily to get the job done. Just like that however, Tony Stark privatised the clean up operation, ripping the contract from Toomes, giving nothing back in terms of insurance or compensation.
As far as motives go for turning someone bad, and holding a grudge against the Avengers, this is pretty high up there, because really, this was a dick move from Stark. Toomes took to selling alien tech weapons as a means of keeping food on his family's table, though if it were up to him, he'd still be cleaning up the city and making an honest living.
Toomes was never going to destroy the universe like some villains promised to do, but he was still a threat, and Spider-Man desperately wanted to prove his worth as an Avenger. The fact that Toomes was Liz's dad added another layer to the story, and a genuine shock to the people in the audience.
