3. Infiltrating SHIELD - HYDRA (Captain America: The Winter Soldier)
The second of Captain America's solo outings couldn't be much more different from the other two that make up the trilogy. The Winter Soldier certainly isn't a typical superhero film, swapping out a lot of the CGI fights, with the exception of the big one at the end, in favour of espionage and politics.
The main antagonist of the movie is Alexander Pierce, though in reality it is full of bad guys, from the bottom to the very top of SHIELD. As soon as Cap and Fury cast doubts on Project Insight, taking down threats before they even happen, the latter was 'killed' and the former was hunted.
Picking up where The First Avenger left off, HYDRA were operating right under Captain America's nose, disguising themselves as SHIELD, sowing war and reaping the profits from it. The group dispatched of any potential threats to their existence and ultimately their new world after Project Insight, including Howard Stark and Nick Fury (or so they thought), with Rogers next on their list.
This would have been an enticing and compelling plot on its own, even without the addition of the Winter Soldier. Throw in the wild card of Captain America's thought to be dead best friend, brainwashed to be the enemy's trained killing machine, and you have a truly fantastic and unique story.
