Every Mission: Impossible Movie Ranked Worst To Best
2. Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (2012)
Almost every long-running movie franchise needs a mini reboot after a certain amount of time, and that's exactly what happened with the Brad Bird-directed Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, which shook the game up with more gasp-inducing practical effects and higher stakes than ever before.
All you have to do is look at the sheer volume of iconic, thrilling moments Ghost Protocol produced: Cruise dangling off the Burj Khalifa; Cruise chasing his enemy threw a sandstorm; the twisty introduction of Jeremy Renner's William Brandt; Simon Pegg's much-welcome comic relief; a final fight set in a precarious car garage.
The list goes on. Ghost Protocol took what made the previous films tick - Hunt's heroism, his mysterious enemies, and brilliant spectacle - and dialed it all up to eleven. The villain might be the franchise's most forgettable, but Ghost Protocol's action and character drama is nothing short of exceptional.
