Every Mitchell And Webb Film And TV Project Ranked From Worst To Best

14. Professor Branestawm Returns

The second of two Christmas special TV movies made for the BBC, David Mitchell supports Harry Hill in a wacky plot largely aimed at children. Professor Branestawm (Hill) is helped by a budding child scientist to win an invention competition and prize fund that ensures he is not evicted from his home.

Mitchell plays Councillor Harold Hagglestone, one of the villains who plot to try to rig the central competition and divert the funds to suit their own needs. The film also stars Steve Pemberton, one half of the partnership behind Inside No. 9 as Professor Branestawm’s scientist rival.

The series is likely not to the tastes of many adults, these are not those kind of kid’s films with lots for parents to appreciate, but does seem to have been well loved by children. With the original film airing in 2014, and this film in 2015, it seems unlikely to be revived at this stage.
