Every Mitchell And Webb Film And TV Project Ranked From Worst To Best
12. Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie
The Absolutely Fabulous TV series was an institution of early ‘90s entertainment in the UK. Focusing on writer Jennifer Saunders’ Edina Monsoon, a hard living PR agent oblivious to her increasing age and un-coolness, with support from the irrepressible Patsy Kensit as the even more wild Patsy Stone and an underrated performance by Julia Sawalha as the Edina’s daughter who spends most of her time cleaning up after the pair, the series would also have two relatively popular revivals in the mid-2000s and early 2010s.
The 2016 film remains the final chapter in the story, a fugitive farce as the main pair are falsely accused of murdering supermodel Kate Moss. Robert Webb has a low-key supporting role as Nick, partner of Sawalha’s Saffron Monsoon.
The movie would release to mixed reviews, unashamedly appealing to fans of the television series rather than any attempt to win over a new viewer base. The film does have a few laugh out loud moments, as Saunders lampoons the vacuous worlds of fashion and PR.
