Every Mitchell And Webb Film And TV Project Ranked From Worst To Best

6. Ambassadors

Ambassadors was an interesting short BBC series from 2013, with David Mitchell as British ambassador to the fictional Central Asian country of Tazbekistan and Robert Webb working under him as Deputy Head of Mission.

Although many critics noted the chemistry of Mitchell and Webb may have saved the series from being more poorly received, it does also contain a promising performance from rising star Keeley Hawes, who would go onto great acclaim in the Bodyguard series amongst others.

The show did suffer critically from its short three part run, being something of a slow burner that grows on the viewer with time. Again, the show was somewhat hampered by the success of Peep Show, with many viewers expecting an almost pure comedy series whereas Ambassadors is more nuanced, highlighting social issues such as the over the top pomp and circumstance of the British ambassadorial network and the acceptance of brutal foreign regimes who are strategically helpful to the UK.
