Every Mitchell And Webb Film And TV Project Ranked From Worst To Best
5. Frayed
Frayed is a recent joint British / Australian comedy production set in the late ‘80s. The plot focuses on an Australian housewife who is forced to move back to her home country from London, following the sudden death of her wealthy husband. The show is a direct rebuke to the image of sunny, carefree, romantic Aussie life as cultivated by the rise of Neighbours and Home And Away in the 1980s.
Robert Webb has a supporting role as Rufus, appearing in 3 of 6 total episodes. The series contains a plethora of talent from the UK and Australia, including writer and lead Sarah Kendal and Diane Morgan (aka Philomena Cunk).
The show garnered a great deal of critical acclaim, but certainly had better viewer figures on Australia’s ABC TV than it did on Sky UK. Despite this, the series was picked up by HBO Max in the US in the summer of 2020, suggesting there is a bigger market for the show outside Oceania. Most are expecting at least one more series but there is no official confirmation yet.
