22. Friday Download: The Movie

Friday Download was always a strange television show for a movie adaptation. The CBBC entertainment and information hybrid had a varied format, involving head-to-head challenges between presenters and celebrity guests, performances by teen-friendly musicians, and reviews of films, fashion, gadgets, etc.

David Mitchell stars as a peculiar small town policeman, copied and pasted straight from the film Hot Fuzz, in what is essentially a poor, British, live action rip off of Scooby Doo, complete with camper van and “haunted” house.

The film would be final chapter for Friday Download. Sometimes known as Up All Night, the 2015 movie would be released the summer after the regular show would come to an end and would not create any real enthusiasm for the continuation of the series. There is very little in the film for casual viewers, with even followers of the series left confused about the dramatic change of format used for the movie.
