Every Non-MCU Marvel Movie RANKED From Worst To Best

31. Captain America (1944)

Marvel Movies
Republic Pictures

This cinematic serial from 1944 couldn't exactly be considered "good", and it certainly hasn't improved with age. It also has very little to do with Captain America as we know him.

This version follows Grant Gardner, a district attorney who dresses up as the Star Spangled Man With A Plan and fights an evil museum curator named the Scarab. The Scarab wants to get his evil hands on super-weapons such as the "Dynamic Vibrator" and the "Electronic Firebolt", and Captain America wants to punch and shoot the Scarab.

It was, in fact, very well-received in its day, getting much better reviews than the similar Batman serial. Today, it is little more than an interesting historical document. Seeing a WWII-era superhero being portrayed onscreen while the war was still ongoing is, at the very least, a bit of a curio.
