Every Peter Jackson Film Ranked Worst To Best

7. Braindead (1992)

Even today, Jackson's insane comedy-horror Braindead is seen as one of the goriest films ever made, and the biggest cult favourite of all the director's other movies. The plot follows a guy called Lionel (Timothy Balme), who has to think fast when his mother becomes a zombie and starts infecting the whole town with her disease.

Darkly humorous and featuring some startling practical effects, Braindead cost $3 million to make - and it wouldn't be too far to assume most of that money went to the blood and gore of the film's most madcap moments. No spoilers here, but the lawnmower scene in particular is one of the most nuts scenes in any zombie film of the 90s.

Braindead is Jackson at his most uncaged, creating the most visually disgusting and action-heavy horror possible but also taking a step back and giving audiences a great host of characters and some surprisingly emotional beats. It's bonkers in every way, but Braindead is also certainly one of Jackson's most fully-realised projects.
