Every Philip Seymour Hoffman Movie Ranked Worst To Best

22. Young Craps Player - Hard Eight (1996)

Phillip Seymour Hoffman Doubt
Metro-Golwyn-Mayer

Hard Eight was the film that got Hoffman noticed, leading to his major role in Boogie Nights and launching him to superstardom. In P. T. Anderson's directorial debut, Hoffman turns up for one scene as an arrogant young craps player attempting to get one over on Philip Baker Hall's protagonist.

It's a short but tense scene, and Hoffman completely steals the show with his intensity and snivelling charisma, and watching it it's easy to see why Anderson brought him back so many times in his later films.
