Every Philip Seymour Hoffman Movie Ranked Worst To Best

The Mission Impossible franchise has had a slew of remarkable villains, but perhaps none as spine-tinglingly terrifying and loathsome as Hoffman's Owen Davian. In one of his most accomplished roles, Hoffman plays Davian as sadistic, arrogant, cruel and malicious, but also pathetic and slimy.

Owen Davian was the franchise's first great antagonist after the terrible narrative decision of the first film and the forgettable cheesiness of John Woo's second installment, and between the threequel's sublime action sequences, heightened emotional stakes and Hoffman's note-perfect performance, Mission: Impossible III makes for one hell of a good film.
