Every Philip Seymour Hoffman Movie Ranked Worst To Best

17. Dean Trumbell - Punch-Drunk Love (2002)

Phillip Seymour Hoffman Doubt
Sony Pictures Releasing

People are often quick to point at Punch-Drunk Love and refer to it as the film where Adam Sandler proved he could be a good actor, but the truth is Sandler is only so great in the role thanks to the contrast presented to him by Hoffman's intense and intimidating mattress salesman Dean Trumbell.

Sandler is undeniably fantastic as the film's disgruntled protagonist, but it's Hoffman who elevates the film to greatness and shows just how perfectly matched he is to Paul Thomas Anderson's directorial style.

Plus, who could ever forget the brilliantly quotable "Shut up!" scene?
