8. Finding Nemo

Pixar

Finding Nemo was a pop-culture phenom beyond compare upon release, wildly outgrossing all of Pixar's prior films with its delightful father-son tale that's equal parts heart-warming, hilarious, and visually stunning.

The aquatic world-building is breathtaking, the large cast of characters are fantastic, and director Andrew Stanton's handle on set-pieces is just sublime.

If thematically broader than Pixar's very best films, the irresistible sweetness of its central dynamic between Marlin (Albert Brooks) and Dory makes it an overpowering crowd-pleaser with a robust environmental message to boot.

It's the film that helped an entire generation of youngsters fall in love with not only the ocean but also animation as a medium, and for that its importance in Pixar's canon is inestimable.
