Every Pixar Movie Ranked From Worst To Best

23. Onward

Pixar

Onward was technically Pixar's second box office bomb after The Good Dinosaur, albeit with the gigantic asterisk that it released literally days before the pandemic shut cinemas down globally.

This quirky fantasy riff on Weekend at Bernie's certainly has its staunch defenders, yet despite its compelling emotional throughline it does feel a bit standard for Pixar: a sweet, breezy story that doesn't stick to the ribs, as they say.

Tom Holland and Chris Pratt lead a strong vocal cast, yet the majesty of Onward's performances and visuals are never quite matched by its story, which only slams into emotional gear in the final stretch.

The bulk of the movie is a decently entertaining fetch quest, albeit one that doesn't have much staying power despite the story being inspired by filmmaker Dan Scanlon's own bereavement at a young age.
