Every Pixar Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
21. Brave
Brave just might be one of the most divisive films in the studio's filmography.
Somehow it took Pixar over a dozen movies to finally give us a story with a female protagonist, and if nothing else, Merida (Kelly Macdonald) is certainly a visually striking and memorable main character.
Similarly the Scottish Highlands setting feels fresh and is beautifully animated throughout, even if the narrative is a thoroughly mixed bag, defined by a plot twist that a lot of people really don't like.
As a contemporary, staunchly feminist reworking of a prototypical fairy-tale, there's a strong desire to love Brave but it just doesn't quite get there. The charm factor is massively lacking, for one.
That it scooped the Best Animated Film Oscar over vastly superior rivals Frankenweenie, ParaNorman, and Wreck-It Ralph remains totally baffling.
