Every Pixar Movie Ranked Worst To Best

22. Monsters University (2013)

Incredibles 2
Pixar

There is no reason that Monsters University should even exist, so it's little surprise that it sits as one of Pixar's lesser films. Ignoring the infamous plot holes of the movie, its biggest issue is that it has no hook.

Being a prequel, the characters aren't as complex as they were in the previous film, and without Boo as the emotional core of the story, it is both predictable and narratively thin.

As ever, the animation is a startling success, and the voice work of Billy Crystal and John Goodman shines just as it did twelve years previously, but between the off-putting retcons, blasé storytelling and lukewarm humour, Monsters University serves as a classic example of a sequel-baiting cash-grab that doesn't really do anything new.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Be excellent to each other.
