Every Pixar Movie Ranked Worst To Best
5. Toy Story
The original Toy Story is far more than just a relic that shows how far that franchise - and Pixar as a whole - have come. It worked because it was a traditionally brilliant story, not because it was impressively built on a new, world-changing CG platform.
You sort of have to view it now in two ways at once. Firstly, it's the founding stone for Toy Story and Woody's arc, which is one of the most complex and satisfying in movie history, thanks to Toy Story 4's release. It sows seeds beautifully, exploring universal truths and fears - like mortality, abandonment and the question of existence - but it also retains a child-like wonder that gripped even the youngest audience members immediately.
And it's also, simultaneously, the flagship Pixar movie, offering the model for all of their stories in some way and establishing the trend of them answering compelling but often very strange What If stories.
It's also one of the best cast animation projects of all time thanks to the performances of Tom Hanks and Tim Allen in the leads - and they're nowhere near the only ones that stand out.
