Every Pixar Movie Ranked Worst To Best
4. Toy Story 3
The third and initially final Toy Story movie is a great companion piece to the first movie in the series, because it offers a dark mirror of what could have happened to Woody if he and Buzz had been left as lost toys. The parable of Lotso Huggin' Bear is one that lands just as hard emotionally as Woody's existential dread and fear of abandonment and it arguably works with even more complexity because he's a villain.
The story is a sort of passing the torch style set-up that doesn't quite close out the toys' story as you'd like in hindsight (mostly just because Toy Story 4 then came along and impressed us all even more with its ending). Yes, it was nice to see the main characters passed on to Bonnie, but it never really came to the right conclusion about the fundamental inevitability of the toys' existence. In other words, it added a nice full-stop, but this was always destined to happen again.
That said, there's no compromise on the emotional elements of the story - Big Baby's story and the incinerator scene in particular are both devastating - and if it HAD ended here, we could all have been very happy.
