Every Planet Of The Apes Movie Ranked Worst To Best
1. Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes (2014)
It's a decidedly close race between War and its predecessor Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, but in the end it has to be Dawn that takes the crown.
Brining in the brilliant Matt Reeves to direct (he'd return to helm War three years later), Dawn takes place ten years after Rise, and follows Caesar as he attempts to keep the peace between his large tribe and a weary human settlement, and forms a friendship with human survivor Malcolm (Jason Clarke).
Sporting a typically dynamite performance from Serkis as well as ape co-stars Judy Greer and Toby Kebbell, and human stars Clarke, Keri Russell and Gary Oldman, Dawn raises the stakes of Rise to an unbearably tense level and doesn't slow down to take a breath.
From the clashes between Caesar and the villainous bonobo Koba (Kebbell), and Oldman's turn as a man losing his grasp on reason in hopes of saving the human race, Dawn does everything a great Apes movie should.
With powerful themes of oppression and hope and somehow even more impressive graphics, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is the best film in the franchise, and honestly one of the best movies sequels you're ever likely to see.
