Every Pokemon Movie Ranked Worst To Best

12. I Choose You!

When the Sun and Moon series saw its film equivalents forgo any adaptation in favour of a blank franchise reset, some eyebrows were raised - but this alternative continuity retelling of Ash and Pikachu's early days brought with it a crisper animated palate than ever before as well as a darker edge of unease about the Pokemon world that had been missing for some time.

Effectively stripping key beats of its hero's career back to the bare bones before sending him off on a quest to meet Ho-Oh, the legendary Pokemon he spotted on his first day as a trainer, it met with a mixed response due to the decision to cut his existing friends out of the picture in favour of less-than-stellar new supporting players - but it still made for a marked improvement over both the Black and White and XY eras on the silver screen.

Something of a culture vulture, Mr Steel can historically be found in three places; the local cinema, the local stadium or the local chip shop. He is an avowed fan of franchise films, amateur cricket and power-chords.
