Every Pokemon Movie Ranked Worst To Best

17. Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution

Having broke from the path with two alternative universe adventures for Ash away from his Sun and Moon era friends, the final film of the period went one further by offering up a 3D-animation, near-shot-for-shot remake of the very first Pokemon movie, Mewtwo Strikes Back, seeking to tap straight into the nostalgia helped conjured by the arrival of Detective Pikachu.

Simply put, there's no reason for this film to exist other than as an exercise in cash-grab superficiality. Though crisp, its detail is far off the benchmark set by similar animated fare in terms of fluidity and expressionism, and with minimalist changes at best, it really serves no purpose other than to grease the chequebook. It figures higher on this list mostly thanks to the strengths of the original, above anything else.

Something of a culture vulture, Mr Steel can historically be found in three places; the local cinema, the local stadium or the local chip shop. He is an avowed fan of franchise films, amateur cricket and power-chords.
