Every Pokemon Movie Ranked Worst To Best

16. Jirachi—Wish Maker

The opening salvo from the Advanced era - and therefore the first Pokemon movie to have seen something of a significant cast shift - Wish Maker stands as the softest of the lot despite bringing a few fresh concepts to the table for a franchise entry, namely its focus on a non-human protagonist and their partnership with another companion away from Ash above all else.

Of course, Mr Ketchum is in the thick of the action as the titular Jirachi emerges with the passing of the Millennium Comet, but it is his young friend Max who gets the emotional centrepiece here rather than him, Brock or May. It didn't quite come together - there's an element of aimlessness to it despite its periodic bursts of semi-inspiration - but it suitably laid the ground for stronger follow-ups throughout the Advanced period.

Something of a culture vulture, Mr Steel can historically be found in three places; the local cinema, the local stadium or the local chip shop. He is an avowed fan of franchise films, amateur cricket and power-chords.
