Every R-Rated DC Movie Ranked From Worst To Best

1. V For Vendetta

Watchmen Killing Joke
Warner Bros.

The third and final film on this list based on an Alan Moore graphic novel is also the one that runs away with the top spot.

Based on one of the hallmarks of DC's Vertigo imprint, James McTeigue's V for Vendetta is one of the most memorable and most brutal political thrillers of the 2000s. Its portrayal of fascist totalitarianism is as chilling as it is socially relevant, its action sequences manage to be simultaneously graceful and brutal, and the actors involved give it their very best throughout.

Despite the fact that Hugo Weaving has his face completely covered for literally the entire movie, he still manages to give a striking performance as V. And let's not forget Natalie Portman, who rightfully took home the title of Best Actress at the 2007 Saturn Awards for her terrific performance as Evey.

V for Vendetta is a film that takes a hard stance on a lot of social and political issues, which provided viewers with topical storytelling, emotional weight, and above all, something to think about. Sure, there were loads of things changed from the book, but as a film, it was exactly what it needed to be.

In the end, V for Vendetta is a fantastic, aggressively poignant film that is as violent as it is thought-provoking. In turn, it is arguably the single-best R-rated film to be released under the DC banner to date. And not even the fact that V's mask will now forever be associated with pretentious Facebook memes can take that away.
