Every Ridley Scott Movie Ranked Worst To Best

8. Alien: Covenant (2017)

Following the visually spectacular but narratively uneven Prometheus, Scott returned to his roots with the most recent Alien sequel. Alien: Covenant is the best sequel in the series since James Cameron's Aliens, and though it has its problems - including an obvious final twist and a poor retcon featuring Noomi Rapace's Elizabeth Shaw - it represents a clear return to form for the franchise.

Aside from the aforementioned issues and the frequently moronic characters, Covenant is boosted to greatness by the scene-stealing performances of Michael Fassbender (doing double duty this time round), Katherine Waterston and an against-type Danny McBride, as well as the absolutely phenomenal visual effects.

For some, there's an issue with pacing, and compared to the original film it certainly lacks in the horror department, but between the acting, intriguing set-up, relentless action and nostalgic tone, Covenant is Ridley Scott at the height of his sci-fi powers.
