Every Ridley Scott Movie Ranked Worst To Best
19. The Counselor (2013)
To call The Counselor a mixed bag would be an understatement. Despite solid performances from Michael Fassbender, Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz and Brad Pitt, the Cormac McCarthy-penned crime drama never fully feels in control of its myriad of themes - such as greed and the drug trade - or overall tone.
There are moments of greatness, including Scott's highly stylish direction and the glossy set pieces, and occasionally the film revels in its shock twists and splashes of violence, but between the uneven pace and McCarthy's uncharacteristically lopsided script, it never becomes the great movie it really should have been.
The Counselor is a film that makes for a decent couple hours of entertainment, and uses its star power to keep itself from totally sinking, but all told it's not the kind of Ridley Scott thriller that'll keep you up nights, lost in thought about its complexities.
