Every Saw Movie Ending Ranked Worst To Best
2. Saw II
The End: Eric Matthews fails his game and is chained up in the bathroom by Amanda Young, Jigsaw's secret apprentice.
Saw II had a hard act to follow when it came to topping the first film's ending, and, while it inevitably failed to do that, this sequel's ending is still excellent.
This ending drops not one but three plot twists - Amanda is Jigsaw's apprentice, the Nerve Gas House Game took place hours earlier, and if Eric Matthews had simply waited at Jigsaw's lair as instructed to, he'd have found his son alive and unharmed - and, impressively, all of them work really well.
It also provides another terrific slice of cinematic karma for Matthews (Donnie Wahlberg), a corrupt and brutal cop whose violent ways lead him directly to his doom. It's a very dark and cautionary tale which is made even more unsettling by the fact that Matthews isn't actually an entirely hateful character. Despite his terrible mistakes, you can't help but feel for him.
The chilling final shot - Jigsaw smiling as he listens to Matthews screaming - is the cherry on top of the cake. The film itself has its flaws, but this ending was genuinely great.
