Every Single MCU Film Ranked From Worst To Best
2. Guardians Of The Galaxy
For a long time, James Gunn's brilliant, shocking sci-fi was the run-away winner of the coveted best in show prize for the MCU, and while it's definitely still a thing of genius, it has been robbed of top stop by an incredible film, and there's no shame in that.
Guardians' cast is incredibly well put together, with great individual performances combining to make effortless, charming chemistry. The characters are your typically amiable rag-tag bunch of space pirates - all in some way based on Han Solo when you think about it - and watching them find themselves and their places on the team without surrendering their characteristic quirks is where Guardians is at its best.
The incredible soundtrack obviously plays into the success too, and while Ronan the Accuser is sneered at somewhat as a villain, Lee Pace's performance is great (even if he's defeated partly thanks to a bloody dance off).
Guardians is an easy film to love, like a roguish younger brother with behaviour problems but a heart of gold, and everything Gunn built was all the more remarkable given how obscure and weird the property is in the first place.
