Every Sofia Coppola Film Ranked Worst To Best
3. On The Rocks (2020)
Though On the Rocks ends up feeling a bit too short, Sofia Coppola's latest comedy-drama is one of her strongest efforts. A moving and existential family melodrama in which novelist Laura (Rashida Jones) teams up with her womanising father (Bill Murray) to figure out if her husband (Marlon Wayans) is cheating on her, the film is an absolute joy.
Once again, Coppola focuses on the mid-life rut of a well-known celebrity whose life doesn't mirror the public's image of them, and both Bill Murray's turn as a morally ambiguous art dealer and Rashida Jones' understated role as a troubled wife elevate the movie to great heights.
On the Rocks is a film bursting with heart, tackling relationships (both romantic and familial) and worry with equal amounts of charm and maturity. There's not much to the film on the surface, but between the intelligent dialogue, thoughtful musings about life and the top-tier performances, it's a perfect display of how great a filmmaker Coppola continues to be.
