4. Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

The MCU knows how to pull on your heartstrings when it needs to and the first part of the Infinity Saga event movie is full of explosive, emotional moments. We literally see most of our favourite characters killed off and the others who survive forced to watch them go and it's Spider-Man's devastating death that ranks as the highest of all of those moments.

Now, it has to be said that Spider-Man is pretty much only in Infinity War as a narrative device as part of Tony Stark's arc (because he represents Stark's impulsiveness and his occasional passionate naivety), but Holland's performance is charming and rewarding enough for that not to really matter.

In a sprawling ensemble that could threaten to be way too heavy, Spider-Man's levity really works and he's the perfect balance to the darker material. In hindsight, we should have seen the axe falling a lot sooner than we all did.
