Every Spider-Man Movie Ranked Worst To Best

3. Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)

After The Amazing Spider-Man franchise tanked as quickly as it replaced Sam Raimi's unnecessarily rebooted original trilogy, Marvel swooped in and offered Sony a lifeline for their flagship character. What with what came before, Tom Holland's impressive debut in Civil War AND the weight of expectation attached with the new MCU label, Spider-Man: Homecoming became one of the most heavily hyped movies of all time.

This was Marvel's real chance to show that they knew their own character best and that they could both expand on Spider-Man's excellent cameo in Civil War to create a full movie and also to offer a wholly new tone that would match Spidey but not necessarily any other MCU character.

The result delivered on all fronts thanks to the adoption of a sort of John Hughes-like spirit and the promise of a staggered Harry Potter-style take on school year chapters. This was something new and charming for the MCU, but it also reaffirmed those nagging suspicions that Tom Holland was the best cinematic Spider-Man, while also introducing some great side characters - chief among them Michael Keaton's wonderful, complex Vulture.
