12. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)

If you look up movies that tried to run before they could walk, you'll find a picture of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Clearly overly excited about the impact of the first ASM movie, Sony unveiled sprawling plans for a Spider-Man universe to compete with the MCU. They needed to seed those movies quickly, so instead of making a normal sequel, they turned The Amazing Spider-Man 2 into a sort of cinematic cross-roads dropping in future hints.

The sequel has some redeeming factors, like parts of its story and the death of Gwen Stacy, but it struggles for exactly the same reasons that Raimi's Spider-Man 3 failed. There are just too many villains, too much unnecessary plotting and it absolutely fails to stick the ending.

At least it ended up being the reason we got to see both the MCU Spider-Man and Into The Spider-Verse.
